Presentation at "Free Software Free Society Conference" for the Session by CopySouth Research Group
This presentation is a critique of the concept of "free society" and its technology of propaganda. This presentation is therefore also a critique of ICT, information and communications technology, the technology underlying the free and open-source movement.
First critique is on the obsession with information and communication via a one-way technology system This technology system is one-way because it operates within and is operated by a mono-conceptual and mono-lingual environment.
Second, this one-way technology system is a hierarchy system of central command and subordinate command. This command system is represented in the Doctrine Application Mark-up Language. What is Doctrine Application? "Doctrine Applications are fundamental principles by which the military forces or elements guide their actions in support of national objectives. It is authoritative but requires judgment in application. The objective of Doctrine is to furnish a basis for prompt and harmonious conduct by the subordinate command of a large military force in accordance with the intentions of the Central Intelligence Command, but without the necessity for referring each decision to superior authority."
ICT naturally supports the concept of Doctrine without Borders, it provides for a dynamic doctrine with its "auto-ripple effects." Doctrine Application Mark-up Language (DAML) brings the word dynamic to Doctrine, providing the established taxonomy and ontology in enabling network training, higher-level training, and distributed learning initiatives.
Third, ICT reinforces a society that is not and will not be ready for freedom or free software.
The move to ban JUD in the UN Security Council, the US pressure on Pakistan-India border, Bush's statement that the US will do everything to protect US citizens, and the projection of all this propaganda in media and into public opinion - these do not give the impression of a free society.
The impression is that of a mental network of central command and subordinate command, where the people believe that they are free.
