HIGHLIGHTS
There were 27 participants who attended the second round of Kuro in General Santos City. The participants, who represented various fields of art, included a novelist and a poet, writers, visual artists, theater practitioners, composers, music recording artists, dance group members, and multimedia/digital artists. Also present were teachers, issue advocacy workers, youth and event organizers, among others.
The main topic, which was on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), was presented by Atty. Elpidio Ping Peria. His presentation lasted for an hour and a half. A number of questions were raised by the participants as IPR is an issue of some artists in the locality. The discussion, facilitated by Mr. Al Ali, Bing Carino and Cecille Diono, was not extensive since time was a constraint. It was decided to continue the discussion in the blog site of Kuro. Atty Peria agreed to continue answering questions related to his topic in the blog site. After the open forum on IPR, Atty. Peria went on a one-on-one discussion with some of the participants who encountered IPR problems in their work.
An art work presentation on the art of musical recording was presented by Bayani Nadua and Togs Tuyac. The technical aspects of the recording were demonstrated. The process and the techniques were presented as well. Some of their works were being played for appreciation purposes since IPR was still an issue with their engagements with some of their works. Another presentation on multimedia art making was presented by Mr. Oliver Saio. He discussed theories on multimedia for better understanding and leveling off of terms with the participants. A sample of his works was also presented in the Kuro. A discussion/open forum followed after his presentation.
After all the presentations and discussions, the Kuro was wrapped up by the activity coordinator, Alma Celesthia Aguja. It was decided by the participants to continue the Kuro but the date had not been set yet. The contact numbers of the participants were collected for coordination purposes. The venue for the next Kuro was agreed to be at Luwina’s Range, which Bing Carino suggested. Poetry reading and other simple art work presentations were suggested to be the activities in the next Kuro. Also, Mr. Egai Cadiente from the City Mayor’s Office offered to help invite other artists in the city.
